Week 1 of the Grocery Challange.

This week I only plan to run to the store later today or tomorrow before Flori's Softball game for some coffee creamer and fresh fruit/veggies for the week. Everything else has already been stockpiled so we will be eating out of the pantry. This weeks line up:
MON:Grilled Chicken Salad with dressing of choice.
TUE: Taco Bake with fresh lettuce and tomato - cheddar cheese and sour cream.
WED: Sloppy Joe on Bun with veggie salad
THU: Planned over Chicken, Frozen mashed potatoes and green beans.
FRI: Trout (caught by DH) Mac and cheese with veggie salad and mixed frozen veggies.
SAT: Homemade Pizza - whole wheat dough, sausage and cheese. Veggie salad.
SUN: Spaghetti and Meatballs, cheese garlic bread and veggie salad.

Breakfast most days include cold cereal (probably not the best choices but this week I got 10 boxes of Kellogg's cereal for free). Milk and fruit (peaches, bananas, grapes or cherries this week)

Lunch is usually left overs from the dinners or the old standby peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with pretzels or chips and fruit or cut up veggies.

Snacks include fruit and cut up veggies ( I cut up carrots, celery and sweet peppers, we like this with ranch dressing or hummus). Fruit snacks (free a couple of weeks ago) Chex Mix and Mango/Banana smoothies are some of the splurges.

All You Grocery challange starts tomorrow.

All you magazine has started a grocery challenge. Spend $25 per person in your household per week on groceries for a month. So for my family of 4 this means a $100 grocery budget per week. Part of the challenge is to also include healthy options and I have also challenged us to eat a lot of locally grown items. The challenge starts July 13. I will be sharing recipes and meal ideas as I try to win $1000 grocery card:)

I am thinking that I should do very well since I already spend less than this per week now. The garden is coming along nicely and I currently have yellow squash and green beans to harvest and use this week. Tomatoes, lettuce cucumbers, zucchini and spaghetti squash are all growing great and will be ready within the next week or so. I also feed my sisters 2 boys dinner 3 nights a week so I am not sure how to count them but I am sure it won't be any problem.
